I’m definitely not the only mom struggling with sleep training their little one. I put together some tips and tricks that worked on my little one. It was no walk in the park but I definitely got through it and I sleep very well at night.

  1. First thing I did was look for clues for when she’s sleepy. Jillian whines, rubs her eyes and pulls her hair and ears.

PUT YOUR BABY IN THEIR CRIB ! Right now, your baby is drowsy. This is the perfect time to put them down. I learned the hard way. I used to rock Jill to sleep every night. She’d expect me to put her to bed all the time.

2. I’d be sure to read her a book sometimes two if the night is young and feed her warm bottle if it’s her feeding time. I also put on a night light for her for a little bit ( I come in when she’s asleep and turn it off ) I do this every night .

I’d recommend you decide on a bedtime routine you can stick to and that your baby can recognize . So, when you do these steps your little one knows it’s time for bed.

3. Leave the Room! I can’t stress this enough. Let them get accustomed to falling asleep alone.

Now there are different Cry it out methods to go by (The Cry it out Method, The No tears method or the Fading method ) just to name a few.

My husband and I chose the Cry it out method which worked really well with Jill. We honestly didn’t let her cry it out for more than 3-5 minutes at a time. I just thought it felt cruel to make her cry longer. To each its own on how long you’ll like your baby to cry it out.

4. BE CONSISTENT! Your little one won’t know you mean business if you only sleep train sporadically. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work right away. You got this !!

** Jillian is currently 8 months , I’ve tried sleep training at 6 and 7 months but she wasn’t ready. Every baby is different , my husband and I just waited for her to give us a clue on when it was the right time.

Until Next time,

xo Shelly
